4-H events and Programs

4-H Development Fund Event Scholarship: This scholarship application is available for any active Harvey County 4-H’er and is meant to be used for county, regional and state 4-H events which have costs associated to them. Scholarship amounts and due dates vary for each event. Please contact the Harvey County Extension Office at (316) 284-6930 for specific due dates and scholarship amounts.

State 4-H Events: Kansas 4-H offers many events and programs throughout the year. Harvey County 4-H members are able to attend these events* (age restrictions vary). *Some state 4-H events may require permission from the Harvey County 4-H Agent. Call or e-mail the Harvey County Extension Office before registering.

4-H Club Days: This event gives participants an opportunity to tell others about their 4-H projects and demonstrate their talents and abilities. Presentations such as talks, demonstrations, speeches, skits, music and dance are judged and awarded ribbons. The public is invited to come, watch and learn more about our 4-H/Youth Development Program.

4-H Multi-County Club Days: Held on the same day as 4-H Club Days, this event gives participants the opportunity to compete on a Multi-County level, with Harvey, Marion, and McPherson county 4-H’ers.

Camping: There are several camps to choose from in Harvey County. Overnight camp takes place every year at Rock Springs Ranch near Junction City, KS. We also offer a variety of other camping experiences.

4-H Supporter's Picnic- Newton, KS: This annual event is held in July at Athletic Park, in Newton Kansas. The picnic meal is provided by 4-H families and supporters of the Harvey County 4-H Program are invited to attend. The 4-H Clothing project members put on a fashion review show during the picnic.

Harvey County Free Fair- Newton, KS: The annual event where 4-H'ers exhibit an end product of their current 4-H projects for evaluation. Judging is done by a variety of evaluation methods. Exhibitors are awarded purple, blue, red, or white ribbons based upon a judge's decision. Purple winners are eligible for State Fair if age requirements are met. A fair book explaining rules and classes is available late in June.

4-H Enrollment Day- Harvey County, KS: This event is typically held in the month of October when the 4-H year starts over. Youth and families interested in learning more about the 4-H Youth Development program are encouraged to attend this event. Participants can enroll in 4-H, meet Project Leaders and Community 4-H Club Leaders, and create crafts.

4-H Achievement Banquet- Harvey County, KS: An annual event to honor 4-H members and leaders. Awards given include membership pins, Key Awards, project pins and leader awards. Everyone involved in 4-H is encouraged to attend. 4-H'ers can receive awards by filling out Kansas Award Portfolios.

4-H Council: 4-H Clubs each have two 4-H representatives and two adults that participate in this group. They meet every other month for a total of six times a year. This group plans 4-H activities and events for the county, as well as forming a budget for County Council.

4-H County Wide Projects: With over 30 projects, there's no doubt all youth in Kansas will find something of interest. Volunteer Leadership for each project varies, so check the latest 4-H Informer newsletter for updated project meeting information.
